This dress up game is primarily Victorian, however check out the hats and hair, rather 18th Century looking!
I had seen this picture in an 18th century book I was reading, and genuinely thought of the caption ‘watch out we got a badass over here’ and someone has done it! How weird!
City Milk
Milk was sold in the streets by milkmaids, who carried it in open pails; Tobias Smollett describes them…
“Dirty water thrown from windows, spittle, snot and tobacco squirts from passersby, spatterings from coach wheels, dirt and trash chucked into it by roguish boys for the joke’s sake, the spewings of infants and finally the lice that drop from the rags of the nasty drab woman that sells this precious mixture.”
